Different places for a charge

A fee can be added to the amount debited, deducted from the amount received or charged separately. Those treatments produce different comparisons. For an illustrative RM100 instruction with a RM2 additional charge, a RM102 debit and RM100 recipient credit can reconcile. If RM2 is instead deducted, RM100 debited and RM98 credited describe another arrangement.

Neither example establishes a real fee. The relevant payment instructions should explain which party charges it and when. A service calling one stage free does not necessarily describe the bank, wallet, conversion or withdrawal stage.

Identify who applies a charge

A service, bank, wallet or conversion provider may describe costs differently. Ask whether the quoted amount is gross or net and whether a separate charge appears later. A headline stating no fee should be read alongside the actual transaction screen and the relevant parties’ conditions.

Keep currencies visible

MYR denotes Malaysian ringgit, commonly displayed with RM in prose. If another currency is involved, read the conversion basis and final amount before committing. Do not treat a displayed exchange estimate as a guaranteed settlement amount when the instructions say it can change.

Currency and limits are different conditions

A payment displayed in MYR may reach a destination that holds another currency, depending on the service. Conversion can affect the received amount and must be interpreted using the disclosed currency and rate. Do not compare figures as though they are the same currency when their labels differ.

A minimum withdrawal is a threshold, not a fee; a daily bank limit is a restriction, not a charge. Save the quoted conditions and the completed receipt. A query should identify the unexplained difference, not simply ask why the balance is “wrong”. Redact unrelated financial information when sharing the comparison.

Useful records

  1. Compare gross and net amounts.
  2. Check which party applies each charge.
  3. Keep conversion terms with the receipt.
